I was incredibly happy to see in the February, 2012 Runner’s World issue an article about eating kale (in their column, Eat This Now), as well as a piece about trying different, new veggies (in Alternate Sides).
Such a refreshing (Paleo) change from the typical, boring, old recommendations to ‘eat a peanut butter bagel before a run’ and ‘have some nice chocolate milk, but make sure it’s low in fat, after a workout’.
For lack of a better word, duh.
Slowly but surely, I’m seeing little bits and pieces of Paleo popping up everywhere and I’m loving it!

Step, people, step!
I know what you mean! I was watching the replay of the U.S. Open Indoor Track & Field meet on TV this weekend. The announcers were talking about the nutritional aspects of middle-distance runner Anna (Willard) Pierce’s training regimen. One of them mentioned that her coach Terrence Mahon had put her on a “meat and vegetables” diet because “she doesn’t need a lot of carbs.” Now, doesn’t that sound familiar?
Oh geez! I get that all the time. “How do you race Ironman if you don’t eat carbs, Nell”? As if! Who ever said carbs were ONLY bagels, bread and pasta?
