The “PaleoBar” Is Not Paleo!

A reader brought this product to my attention recently.  As I've mentioned many a time, on the rare occasion when you DO eat something in a wrapper, you must ALWAYS read the ingredient panel with Eagle Eyes, lest you miss something and consume something not Paleo and potentially quite harmful to your body.

You'd think, would't you, that something called "Paleo Bar" would be, well, Paleo, wouldn't you?

Not so much, it turns out!

My jaw dropped when I read the ingredients:

INGREDIENTS: Coating (Fructooligosaccharides, Cocoa Butter, Erythritol, Unsweetened Chocolate, Calcium Carbonate, Whey Protein Concentrate, Soy Lecithin (An Emulsifier)), Protein Blend (Whey Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Concentrate, Whey Crisps (Whey Protein Isolate, Rice Flour), Rice Protein Concentrate), Maltitol Syrup, Glycerine, Almond Butter, Almonds, Unsweetened Chocolate, Coconut Oil, Fructooligosaccharides, Xylitol, Natural Flavor, Lecithin, Digestion Resistant Fiber (Fibersol 2), Cocoa Powder, Omega 3 Concentrate Complex, Covalent Bonded Glutamine (GlutImmuneTM), Sea Salt, Green Tea, Elderberry, Rosemary Extract.

Um, hello?

I sent an email to the company to inquire how they can sell this and call it Paleo but Designs for Health, founded in 1989 by a local team of nutritionists, has not yet responded.

You'd think by now I wouldn't be phased, but I certainly was!

Speechless.
