My Favorite Smoothie
As much as I've shared this recipe with friends and clients, I just realized that I hadn't actually posted this as its own blog entry, other than when I blogged my diet back in November.
Following is my breakfast of choice for early mornings on the go, when I'm on the road by 5:30 AM to meet clients at the gym at 6. It's so easy to whip it up in the blender and is a great balance of healthy fat, protein and unprocessed carbohydrate.
Nell's Smoothie
8 oz brewed green tea (I brew it the night before and leave it in the fridge overnight so it's chilled. I prefer this as the liquid base over commonly used varieties of rice, almond, soy or cow's milk as it has zero calories and is filled with antioxidants).
1 T Raw Almond Butter
1 T Flax seed meal
1/2 c frozen berries (I prefer berries over other fruits as they have a low glycemic index. If I were drinking this right before a workout, I'd be apt to use a banana instead)
1 scoop of plain egg white protein powder (My favorite is the Jay Robb Brand- it's clean with nothing artificial added)
Blend it up and you've got a great balanced breakfast to go- you can even have it while you're driving into work or the gym!
