All Things GREEN- Prep Tips For Our Leafy Green Friends!
"I feel like I spend half my time in the kitchen shaking colanders and pounding a salad spinner. Do you pre-wash all your salad greens? Do you have a fave method of washing & drying? How do you keep them fresh in the fridge?"
A reader posted this comment/question to me and I'm sure there are many other readers wondering about the same things!
YES- I pre-wash all the salad greens, even those whose labels state triple-washed. From a food safety perspective, there's just no reason to skip this important step.
I love the salad spinner for being sure to thoroughly dry all the leaves. I haven't found anything that works better!
You can save time by washing and prepping large batches at one, then storing them in a large container lined with paper towels, and kept in the veggie crisper drawer of your refrigerator. To paraphrase Julia Child (sort of), "Don't Crowd The Veggies"; granted, she was referring to not crowding beef while browning it to prep for Boeuf Bourguignon, but you get the idea!
