Way to Go, Ironman.com!
I was thrilled when a friend from Oz alerted me to an article today on the ironman.com website entitled “The Power of Coconut Oil”!
A brief piece, which included the following statement was such a refreshing read when compared to the oft promoted idea of eating Wheaties (not kidding) and a plethora of bars and mixes:
“Nutritional support: Coconut oil is rich in essential fatty acids, comprised of medium-chain triglycerides, or MCTs. These type of triglycerides are quickly absorbed by the body and converted into energy, rather than being stored as fat. (Hello, leanness!) During intense exercise, fast-metabolized energy sources – such as the MCTs found in coconut oil – may be the optimal choice. Coconut oil can be substituted for butter or other oils when cooking, or you can take it in supplement form.”
Good on you, Ironman- let’s see more where that came from!
